Frequently Asked Questions
DO I NEED TO SCHEDULE AN IN-PERSON OR A VIRTUAL SESSION FOR MY INITIAL APPOINTMENT?
Tere can meet you in-person or virtually if you live in Texas. If you reside in Colorado, California, Arizona, Virginia or Michigan, she can meet with you virtually.
WHAT HAPPENS AT MY INITIAL ASSESSMENT?
The nutrition assessment begins by taking detailed medical history (bringing labs/bloodwork is highly recommended), current physical activity, and hours of sleep. Tere will ask about your dietetic history to explore your current meal pattern and habits. She may also ask about your weight history to better understand body responses to changes in your eating behavior.
The goal for the initial assessment is to do a holistic evaluation to better understand your goals and challenges as well as your motivations for change. You and Tere will identify a treatment plan and the first immediate objectives. This session usually lasts between 60 to 75 minutes.
HOW OFTEN WILL WE MEET?
Tere recommends meeting on a weekly basis after the initial nutrition assessment for at least 6 to 8 weeks, but treatment plans will be customized to meet your needs and preferences.
WHAT IS THE COST OF THE SERVICES?
Initial Nutrition Assessment is a 60 minute session $165
Follow up Nutrition session is 45 minutes $145
Check ins 30 to 45 minutes ($50 per 15 min unit)
HOW DO I PAY FOR THE APPOINTMENTS?
A credit card number is required to hold all appointments, but payment is not required until the service is provided. Our practice currently accepts cash, check or credit cards. Health Savings Account cards that function as a debit card are also accepted.
DO YOU ACCEPT HEALTH INSURANCE?
Currently, Wise Nutrition Counseling is accepting Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas. Please verify that your plan provides coverage for Nutritional Counseling or Medical Nutrition Therapy. If your health insurance plan does not have benefits for nutrition services, the fees will be paid out-of -pocket.
If you are covered by other health insurance company, we can provide you with a Superbill (receipt with insurance codes) that you can submit to receive reimbursement. Depending on your medical plan, you may receive up to 100% of the out-of-pocket cost from your insurance.
WHAT IS THE CANCELATION POLICY?
If you are unable to attend a scheduled session, cancellation must occur at least 24 hours beforehand. With less than 24 hours’ notice, we will need to charge you for the full rate of the session.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN RDN AND A NUTRITIONIST OR A HEALTH COACH?
The answer to this question varies based on your state, but in Texas, anyone can refer to themselves as a “nutritionist” without any specific training or education. Registered Dietitians and Registered Dietitians Nutritionists are the experts in food and nutrition science since they are required to earn a minimum 4-year degree from an accredited college, complete 1,200 hours of supervised practice, pass a registration exam administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, and complete continuing education in order to maintain credentials.
A nutritionist or health coach is a person who works with food and nutritional science, aiming to prevent diseases related to nutrient deficiencies. Qualifications are not required, and in some cases, these are self-proclaimed titles.
